MEET MEEA – OUR NEWEST RECIPIENT FROM THE MAGGIE MAY MEMORIAL FUND

Meea is a 9 year old Cocker Spaniel, and is the love of her Mom’s life. One day, Debbie wanted to expand her family and found Meea when she was looking at puppies to adopt. A puppy hiding behind the stove, looking at her, caught Debbie’s eye. Debbie asked about the puppy, and was told that she would not want her, because the puppy was returned for not being suitable for show or breeding. Debbie had no interest in a puppy to show or breed, she was looking for a family member. It was love at first sight for them both.

At first, Meea was very shy, and would cry in her sleep. Her family would comfort and soothe her with loving cuddles, and after a few months she was at ease and was snoring her way through the night. Meea, for some reason was terrified of food dishes, Debbie tried many different types and finally found that a flat plate worked the best. She was settling right in as a member of the family.

Debbie’s daughter moved out and rescued a Dingo from Texas named Flinn, just before he was set to be euthanized. Meea loves spending time with Flinn and Tameka, but makes it clear to them as to who is the Alpha dog! Flinn does his share of caring for Meea and licks her ears for her. Meea is the perfect warmer on cold nights, cuddling nice and close is what she does best. Meea watches over Debbie too, Debbie has sleep apnea, and now uses a CPAP machine, but before, Meea would wake Debbie up if she could not hear her breathing. Once Meea was certain that her Mom was breathing, she would go right back to sleep, snoring away.

Meea had a cat friend too, named Buffy, but it took a few years for Buffy to tolerate Meea, Sadly, Buffy has since passed away at 20 due to kidney failure. Meea still looks for her. Since Meea was a puppy, she was also a regular visitor at Debbie’s Mom’s extended care facility. She brought so much joy to the residents and her demeanor was wonderful with them all. Meea had no problem curling up in their bed and having a nap too.

Meea has survived other medical issues, but she now has chronic ear troubles, and no matter how much pain she is in, she does not complain. Meea sleeps with Debbie and at night when Meea starts to shiver, Debbie knows she is in pain, she cuddles her tight and prays for the pain to stop. The only hope for Meea is to remove the tumors and a total “Ear Canal Ablation”. To allow Meea to be continuously in pain or to euthanize is not an option for Debbie!

Meea has lost most of her hearing from the tumours and infections, but she has a lot of living yet to live, and Debbie will do whatever it takes for her girl. Meea is a forever family member.

We are proud to be able to financial help Meea, but this is an expensive surgery that cannot be scheduled until the funds are raised. Debbie is doing everything possible to raise the funds.  If you would like to directly help with the cost of Meea’s surgery you can:

1) Donate through our website, noting MEEA in the comments: click here: DONATE
2) Email us for other options at: maggiemay99@telus.net
3) Donate through Meea’s GOFUNDME page: click here: MEEA

We will keep you updated!

MAY 12, 2015 – UPDATE

HAPPY THOUGHTS FOR MEEA ❤️
Please keep Meea in your thoughts and prayers as she undergoes her first surgery today at Boundary Bay Specialty Hospital. They are only able to remove the tumors and do a total ear canal ablations, one ear at a time.  The next surgery will be in 2 weeks. A kind soul has loaned Meea’s Mom the remaining funds needed for the 1st surgery. If you would like to help, donation options are in the links above. We will keep you updated on Meea’s progress throughout the week.

MAY 14, 2015 – UPDATE

MEEA IS HOME ❤️ ❤️
We have an update on Meea.  She needed to stay another night in hospital, a couple of issues, but otherwise her surgery went well.  She is now resting at home and snuggled next to her Mom.  She is very shaky and whimpering, but the Dr.’s say it will pass. Her second surgery is in 2-3 weeks.  We worry about them as though they are our own, please keep Meea in your thoughts!

MAY 17, 2015 – UPDATE

BACK TO EMERGENCY
Meea was rushed back to Hospital on Friday night with a ruptured eye, with a possibility of surgery to remove the eye.  The Optomologist examined Meea on Saturday night, and determined that surgery is not needed, the medication and treatment she was receiving was doing it’s job, and was sent home.  We are not sure as to why this happened, but today Meea is doing well!  It is imperative that the second surgery on Meea’s other ear be scheduled as soon as possible.  Please help if you can, donation links and Meea’s Gofundme page are above.

MAY 26, 2015 – UPDATE

Meea had her stitches removed, her Dr. reports all is good and healing well.  Meea’s 2nd surgery to do her other ear is scheduled for June 1st.

JUNE 2, 2015 – UPDATE

Meea’s 2nd surgery went well, no complications other than issues with her eyes again, but it is being watched carefully.  She should be going home today. Thanks go out to those that donated to her care, along with the family, we are deeply grateful.

FOR MISS JACKIE ….. thank you for your support!

We have been sewing like crazy over the past while to raise funds for our Maggie May account! Our pet blanket quilt tops are ready to be backed and personalized, but every once in a while, one of our creations end up with our very own furry child.  As is the case with this purple themed Maggie May blanket.  Supervisor Jackie just had to have it, unfortunately she has no money as her wages are paid in doggy treats and belly rubs. However, a secret admirer came up with the cash….aka her MOM, and it now lays proudly on Miss Jackie’s favourite viewing spot!

FOR LASSIE JR. …… thank you for your support!

While at our Meet & Greet event at Pet Food N More last week, we had all our pet blanket tops and some completed blankets on display. The Black and White pet blanket caught this sweetie’s Mom’s eye, and it went home with her that day! Suits her to a tee, don’t you think?

CHIROPRACTIC CARE DOES WONDERS FOR ROSIE

Rosie_a written by Rosie’s Mom, Fiona

Rosie has been seeing Dr. Lana Patterson for almost 3 years now.  Dr. Lana  has been amazing with Rosie and it is so wonderful to know that we can keep her body in such great shape and pain free as she advances in age.

Recently Dr. Lana has been able to completely help Rosie with her urinary bladder incontinence, through lumbar spine adjustments for muscle strain.  Rosie went weekly for a few sessions, then every two weeks, every four weeks and as of today Rosie is seeing Dr. Lana every 6 weeks.  We are so amazed by this and so happy as we didn’t want Rosie to be upset ever about this and now it is not even an issue. Her body which is almost 13 years old is able to hold the adjustments very well.

Dr. Lana has such a bright, positive, loving spirit, that is so genuine. She is a very gifted and knowledgeable in her field. Her kindness makes you feel at ease instantly.

Rosie just loves her!  And so do her grateful parents!

FOR CARMELLA …. thank you for your support!

Meet Carmella…..she is a 6 year old Chihuahua/Affenpinscher cross, in other words she is part Mexican and part German! Carmella is a sweet, adorable little girl, but very shy, so we were honoured that she gave us the ok to pet her and hold on to her paw….awww! Her Maggie May blanket was delivered personally this afternoon, and from the photo’s we just received, looks like she has settled right into it. Her Mom says that Carmella knew the blanket was for her and loves it and we loved making it for her. Carmella loves to go camping, but she is not fond of water unless she’s in the boat! Her blanket not only matches the décor but will keep her comfy cozy on their many camping trips.

UPDATE – DONATION TO ROXY’S RELIEF

update

Our memorial fund is established to assist people in need with their veterinarian costs, and we are proud to have been able to provide support to Josie and Squirt.  Our efforts to increase exposure to our cause and to grow the fund is an ongoing effort, one that we are dedicated to.  We also believe in collaboration and helping in other ways when we can.

We came across Roxy’s Relief fund a few weeks ago, this fund “provides support to BC homeless, street-involved, low-income pet guardians through donations of food, bedding, jackets, and other items, and by offering free animal health clinics and vet care assistance”.

In line with our goals, we felt compelled to help, and today we made a donation to Roxy’s Relief fund from Maggie’s Memorial account.

Roxy’s Relief is just one of the programs offered by Paws for Hope Animal Foundation. You can read more about their programs …. Guardian Angel, Roxy’s Relief, Crazy About Cats, Pets Are Not Products, and Cruelty Free BC on their website.

It was a pleasure to speak with Kathy Powelson, the Executive Director and founder of Paws for Hope Animal Foundation. Speaking with Kathy, we learned more about her organization, we admire her dedication, her ambition and her dream. Kathy gave us some much appreciated input and direction, we will be staying in touch, and hope to do something together in the future!

We are a small organization compared to Paws for Hope, but our dedication is nonetheless, and we are always extremely grateful for everyones support!

HAPPY UPDATE ON JOSIE !

10609724_709676515796293_5836068035203547694_na

We recently checked in with Josie’s Mom, and she is happy to say that Josie is doing so well, spiritually and physically.  She’s finally living the life that she never had a chance to enjoy.  It’s baby steps, but she is not running away from strangers in the dog park now.  All  3 of Nalyn’s dogs get a lot of attention, but she always has to remind people, that Josie and Sapphire are still a bit timid of strangers. She says an older lady crouched down with Josie, but she actually sniffed her, instead of running away!

Josie still goes for treatments every 6 weeks, but over-all, Nalyn and her Doctors say she is doing amazing! She is definitely putting even more pressure on her bad leg, they are on week 4 of therapy, and there has been huge improvement.  Josie loves to play and be outside, just like any other happy dog!

In Nalyn’s words …”She puts a huge smile on my face every time I see her.  I feel truly blessed to have her in my life and to continue on this journey with her. I can’t believe that it’s almost a year that this has happened to her. I am really glad that her story has touched and given people inspiration and  hope! It honestly warms my heart to see how many people supported her through  her difficult  time”.

Josie’s treatment is lifetime, and we are so glad that we were able to be there for her, to be on this journey with her. Josie will always be a part of the “In  Memory Of  Maggie May” family!

To read more about Josie, see our “Tails of Help” page.

Rosie 100_5938 (2)

Rosie gets a little chilly sometimes, so her Mom asked if we could make her a couple of receiving type blankets that she could wrap her in  ….. of course we could. We made 3 colour ways for Rosie, yellow, pink and her favourite…. purple.

Rosie will be 13 this year and is doing amazing! You can read about what Rosie’s Mom does for her girl to keep her healthy on our “For The Love Of  Our Fur Kids” page.
