JOSIE ….. AN INSPIRATION ❤️

Josie 11141162_10153158512746498_5228117454139582764_n

Josie was our first recipient from the Maggie May fund in 2014. She will always have a special place in our hearts and ever since we have kept in touch, following her antics,  her bad days and her good. Josie has faced many hurdles since, but she continues to be happy and defy the odds.

Josie’s latest hurdle …. Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, but the good thing is that once the diagnosis is confirmed, it is treatable!

Nalyn (Josie’s Mom) is an amazing caregiver, she does everything she can possibly do for her girl. She continues to make sacrifices for her, she faces each hurdle with hope and a positive attitude. Josie is one lucky girl ….. but sometimes everyone needs a little help, if you would like to help Josie & Nalyn, you can donate directly to:

Western Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Centre – Dr. Glenna Mauldin
(403) 770-1340 using her name “Josie Hill-Unwin”

Nalyn gave Josie a chance, a chance to live, a chance to be happy, a chance to be loved. We recently asked Nalyn to write us an update on Josie …..

“Josie is as happy as can be despite all her medical issues! She likes to run around and try to play with her sisters. She has so much fight to her and continues to fight and stay strong. She has defied all odds that have been thrown at her! She was diagnosed with non contagious inflammatory encephalitis in 2014. She was also diagnosed with invasive mammary cancer in December of 2015, but it has not spread as per her chest X-ray in June and no new masses have grown. She has a grade 4 luxating patella and arthritis in her right hip, but surgery is not an option, it’s just maintaining it with supplements and acupuncture. Josie has been giving me a hard time with eating. I thought I had created it myself because she would turn her nose up and she would get something different. She went for her cytosar treatment recently in August. Her neurologist felt really concerned that she wasn’t eating so he suggested blood work. Her blood work came back with an extremely high white blood cell count that was up by 37.9 from her last blood work and an extremely high lymphocyte count of 82%. Her oncologist strongly believes that we are now dealing with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. The good news is that it is treatable! However, we need to get specialized blood work testing done that is sent to the university of Tennessee in order to confirm diagnosis before we can start treatment. She is my warrior princess!! She is strong and teaches me every day what its like to be strong and I feel so blessed to have her love and trust. She hasn’t had the easiest life coming from her background and all her medical issues but she has so much love to give. She has blossomed from this scared, terrified , very fearful dog to this super amazing, loving , trusting, happy, dog.”

Josie is our wonder girl, we feel she has a higher purpose ….. to show others that no matter how many hurdles they face, always have hope and never give up!  Josie is an inspiration and we feel her story needs to be shared.

WE ARE WALKING IN MEMORY OF KIRBY & MAGGIE MAY – SPCA PAUSE FOR A CAUSE!

KIRBY

MAGGIE MAY

MAGGIE MAY

On Sunday, September 11th, we are walking (Maple Ridge location) with our good friends at HYDRO PAWS to fight against animal cruelty.

Let’s fight animal cruelty one step at a time!  Last year, the BC SPCA conducted 10,205 new cruelty investigations. This is a staggering number, and one that continues to rise.

The animals need our help. Donations to the BC SPCA fund cruelty prevention and education programs, and the enforcement of animal cruelty laws. With their team of specially trained constables, the BC SPCA is making strides. But there is still more work to be done.

This fall, our team will be putting our best paws forward to walk with animal-lovers across B.C. to fight animal cruelty. Every dollar raised will help the BC SPCA rescue and care for abused, injured and abandoned animals, and work to prevent cruelty before it occurs.

Please donate if you can or better yet, walk with us! Together we can put our foot down on animal cruelty.

Thank you for your support!

UPDATE ON BUDDY

Buddy image3 (2)

Buddy, the 5 year old Bengal that was attacked by a coyote late last week is doing ok!

We were contacted by Central Park Animal Hospital on behalf of Buddy and his guardian for financial help towards the cost of the surgery to repair the bite wound and the dislocated hock joint. They desperately needed our help, and after we approved the application, we reached out to our followers for the extra bit in donations that we needed to make this happen.

Buddy had his surgery on Sunday afternoon, but unfortunately the infection had spread. The specialist felt an amputation was in Buddy’s best interest and our own medical consult, Dr. Walton, also agreed.  Animals are amazing as we all know and can manage quite well after an amputation. Buddy was home by Monday and doing ok, but being a Bengal he is quite rambunctious, so he is back in hospital for a few days to ensure he rests and starts his recovery out right.

Thank you to those that gave that extra bit, through our “YourCaring” page and email transfers.  With your support, Buddy will have a second chance at a long and happy life!

We will keep you updated!

WE NEED HELP FOR BUDDY!

Buddy

Buddy

We have received an emergency request to assist a 5 year old Bengal named Buddy.  He was attacked by a coyote and needs surgery to repair the bite wound and a dislocated hock joint.  The prognosis is good but we need your help to assist Bengal and his guardian.  It’s been a tough time for the two right now and we want to help as much as we can.  The surgery cost is between $1500 & $1700, and it can’t wait. Good Samaritans have already directly donated a bit to the cost, but we are still a bit short of funds. Can you help?  Any amount is greatly appreciated.

UPDATE … where we are today

updateAs you all know “In Memory Of Maggie May” is very dear to my heart and I will never give up, I will always do my very best to help those pets that truly need our help.  Fundraising is hard because it is tough times out there for many of us. But, it is  discouraging when donations don’t come, especially when we need it most. We are a non-profit organization, but not a registered charity (yet!) because we are small and need people to join us to help us grow, but it does not mean that our hearts are not in the right place.  We donate our time and absorb much of the costs personally.  We look for great deals on fabric so that the majority of our sales are directed to the memorial fund. We are very diligent in our application process, we work closely with our medical consult, and we ensure that those truly in need receive our help. Did you know that to date we have paid out close to $15,000 to pets in need? Can you help us continue our cause …. we have 426 followers, can you imagine if we received a $20 donation from each, that’s $8520! Small amounts add up fast!

Our main priority right now is to help Bambi, a 7 month old Chihuahua with a broken leg.  Her application came in last evening, we know our funds are short, because we have other pending requests for a pup with IVD disease, a kitty with diabetes that is not eating, and another that needs a lump removed. You can donate via paypal or email transfer.

13411988_10154927872900299_7560043588280525379_oAWe recently assisted Mittens with her surgery. The best feeling in the world is knowing  how much our help means to the fur parents, but we could not do it without your support!
